Cléo

Cléo de Mérode, a Belle Époque dancer, is often regarded as the first modern influencer. She became the most photographed woman of her time, admired for her beauty yet torn down for it as well. Her image was endlessly circulated, and rumors—many untrue—followed her throughout her life.

Despite the scrutiny, she remained strong. Her story reflects how women’s beauty is still treated today: both celebrated and threatened. What is beauty, really?

The goldfinch beside her symbolizes expression, while the moth recalls fatal attraction—drawn to the light, even at its own peril. Like a moth to a flame.
