Artistic expression has always been central to my life. My mother was an artist, and, growing up in the ’60s and ’70s, I was surrounded by artists, writers, and philosophers. Watercolor was a favorite medium in high school; then I turned to acting, and, many years later, returned to visual art. Since 2020, my practice has grown into a daily routine that grounds me and brings me purpose and joy.
My work looks for what words can’t express. I create psychologically layered and sometimes surreal portraits and figurative scenes that examine the complexities of human experience. Rooted in personal memory, archetype, and dream, my paintings hold space for both vulnerability and strength. I’m currently particularly drawn to the cultural narratives imposed on women—witch, saint, hysteric—and the ways those roles and constructs both distort and reveal our identities. I don’t chase realism or perfection; I seek emotional truth. Each piece offers a space to pause, a moment to feel, and a chance to look beneath the surface.
Recent exhibitions include Figure As Story at Petaluma Arts Center, Realms at Artworks Downtown, Irrepressible Women at San Francisco Women Artists Gallery, and The De Young Open 2023 at the De Young Museum.
